# Plans and fair use

> Costory plans (Starter, Team, Business, Custom), what each includes, how fair use on app usage and AI works, and how spend bands act as a guardrail.

Costory has four plans. Every plan includes unlimited users, unlimited data sources, every playbook, the FinOps MCP and Slack. Pricing follows how much your teams use Costory, not a percentage of your cloud bill.

Every plan starts with a 30-day free trial. You can contract by credit card, through AWS Marketplace or through Google Cloud Marketplace. Billing monthly costs 20% more than an annual commitment.

## Fair use

Each plan includes a fair use on two things:

* **App usage**: queries, reports and alerts.
* **AI**: Ask Costory, the AI analyst in the app and in Slack.

The Starter fair use fits about 80% of our customers. You see your usage in the app and get a warning at 70% of the limit. Above the limit, the heaviest queries slow down. Nothing is ever cut off mid-session.

> Claude, Cursor or any agent connected through the [FinOps MCP](/features/mcp.md) does not consume Ask Costory credits. If your team already works in an AI assistant, use it through the MCP.

## Spend bands are a guardrail

The annual cloud and AI spend shown on each plan is only a guardrail for large estates. It is not how the price is set: two teams with the same cloud bill can sit on different plans depending on how much they use Costory.

## Identity and access

Starter uses auto-join by company domain. Team, Business and Custom add Enterprise SSO through your identity provider. See [Identity and Access](/docs/sso-access-control.md) for the full comparison.

## Which plan should you pick?

* **Starter** if one team wants every bill allocated and explained, in Slack and in their assistant.
* **Team** once Costory rolls out more widely and security or procurement asks for SSO.
* **Business** for larger estates that need fresher data, more headroom on usage and Slack support.
* **Custom** for enterprise spenders with large usage who need custom terms and hands-on support.
