Different cloud providers handle currency differently in their billing exports. This document outlines how we process each source.

AWS

AWS does not provide a currency rate. Instead, it converts USD totals to your preferred currency at the exchange rate in effect when the invoice is created. As a result, no currency information is passed in the CUR 2.0 report. In Costory, during the month (before the invoice is finalized), we use an estimated exchange rate provided by public data sources (Google Finance). At the end of the month, we rely on the exchange rate at the invoice date.

GCP

GCP provides the currency rate as part of the billing export. The exchange rate is defined at the beginning of the month and remains the same for the entire month.

Azure

Azure provides the cost in both the billing currency and the pricing currency. There is therefore an inferred currency rate that we use directly.

Datadog

Usage is billed in USD. In Costory, we use an estimated exchange rate provided by public data sources (Google Finance).
